REGARDING DR. MICHAEL SCOTT
BELLINGHAM, WA

One of Doctor Scott's patients is a local artist who makes creative greeting cards to send to him following appointments for herself and her husband. Some of their messages on the cards have been:

"We appreciate your excellent skills and the fact that you always take the time to do a fine job."

"We very much appreciate you and your staff in keeping our smiles intact."

"Thanks for doing an expert and professional job on what was not an easy task. I look forward to my next appointment . . . "

" Dr. Scott recently re-cemented my crown on #15 on an emergency basis. It was a difficult situation, but he got it fixed for me, and I appreciate the skill and ability in dealing with this issue. I'm most grateful."

FROM OUR PATIENTS IN PUYALLUP, WA
PUYALLUP, WA

When filling out the comment card the patient noted that the thing that stood out as the most positive thing about her visit was the "interaction between employees; very sincere towards customers and myself." A patient emailed Patient Relations about his experience at Puyallup: "This is to forward the highest possible praise for Theresa, the Manager of the Puyallup South Hill Clinic, as well as Dr. Javier, my dentist. I had a bridge which had failed, and it looked as though it would be two months before I could be seen. Theresa managed to get an appointment for me earlier this week. This was because Dr. Javier graciously consented to fitting me into his schedule. During the appointment, Dr. Javier skillfully installed a post in my damaged tooth, a procedure with a high risk of penetrating the root of the tooth. He then proceeded to complete a build-up of the tooth and flawlessly installed a temporary bridge with the best occlusion I have ever had."

FROM A PATIENT IN ALBANY, OR
ALBANY, OR

"Thank you for letting me pick-up my teeth. You don't know this, but you gave me a new lease on life. I can start getting my life back together. You're a great dental office, and I am letting everyone I know know this. Thanks again."

ON BEHALF OF ALBANY GENERAL HOSPITAL FOUNDATION AND SAMARITAN ALBANY GENERAL HOSPITAL
ALBANY, OREGON

"On behalf of Albany General Hospital Foundation and Samaritan Albany General Hospital, I am enclosing a copy of our employee newsletter, The Well Informed. Within it, you'll find an article about your generous donation of toothpaste and toothbrushes for Linn County's foster children. We truly appreciate your involvement in our community and thank you for your kindness."

FROM A PATIENT AT OUR LAKEWOOD OFFICE

FROM A PATIENT AT OUR JEFFERSON OFFICE
PORTLAND, OR

Angie Labitad was going home on the MAX and she was talking with 2 other riders and while they were swapping stories, she was asked where she works, and she told this gentleman "Willamette Dental".

Well they determined that they were acquainted, because he's a patient of Dr Kyung's, and has also seen (and loves!) Dr. Carter. When he said that, Angie remembered who he was and asked him "Did you have a son in the Iraq war?" He replied that he did, and that Willamette Dental had done something that he and his family would never forget.

It was then that Angie remembered him and his story. His son was killed in Iraq, and the office sent him and his wife a card, with their condolences, and employees signed it. (Angie had gone out and bought the card, and suggested it to Tammy). This gentleman said that it was one of the kindest things he'd ever experienced, and that he'd never forget what it meant to him and his wife. He said close friends had not expressed their condolences because they worried if it was the right thing to do or not, and that he couldn't believe a "dental office" would actually do what they did. He started to cry while he was talking to Angie, he was so moved.

He also commented that Dr. Kyung always remembered his name and personal things about him, and he'd always been impressed by that. Angie had commented to him that access is always a challenge for us, and that we try to make up for that in other ways.

FROM A PATIENT AT OUR BEAVERTON OFFICE
BEAVERTON, OR

"I wanted to give the Beaverton office a Gold Star for Emily's first experience at the dentist. The X-ray technician was very polite and patient. The hygienist was very helpful, patient, polite and explained everything to Emily so she could understand at her age. The dentist explained things very well. Emily's first trip to the dentist was very pleasant, which was greatly appreciated."

FROM A PROFESSOR AT OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY
CORVALLIS, OR

"It is a pleasure for me to express sincere appreciation for the efficient services, sincere care and attentive support that I have received (on every visit) from Dr. Pham's organizational and medical expertise, as well as from the skilled services of his Senior Dental Assistant, John Calhoon.

From the beginning, my experience was very positive. My first visit was very educational and provided more insight into the preventative aspects of dental care than I have ever previously experienced from services received in different parts of the United States, England, and New Zealand. As a result, I have experienced progressive improvement in the state of my dental health, and I will continue to practice the excellent skills that I have learned from these two fine professionals ...

The services at Willamette Dental Group in times of inflationary medical costs are of the highest standard that I have ever experienced, and at comparatively a much lower cost. Your organization is to be congratulated on providing high quality at a continuing affordable cost."

FROM A GRATEFUL MOTHER REGARDING DR. STALEY, BEAVERTON SPECIALTY
BEAVERTON, OR

"I'm sure you don't think anything of it when children come in to be treated. But it's important that you know just how unique and special and all but miraculous what you do everyday is.

My daughter went to see her regular dentist ... to get a cavity filled. (Just previously she had to get an abscessed tooth pulled by the same dentist). With the big needle in his hand, trying to hide it from her, he said, "OK now. Close your eyes." At that point she freaked and began to cry and whimper and wouldn't open her mouth. I didn't think I would ever be able to get her into a dentist office again!

But you changed all that. You took special care of her, as if you had no other patients that day. You constantly talked to her, explaining every tool and procedure at her level and didn't start until she was comfortable. Her hands-on opportunity made the difference in her not being afraid of the tools. And she especially loved to blow the airplane around!

She came out of your office feeling no pain, having no shots whatsoever, feeling proud and confident that she was able to 'conquer' a previously 'very scary' experience. And also, not only did you do her one required tooth that day, you made the time to fill two more, reducing our visits substantially.

You were a blessing and answer to prayer that day. And you are very much appreciated!"

REGARDING DR. BRIAN VAN VOORHIS, SALEM-LIBERTY
SALEM, OR

"I wanted to call to compliment Dr. Van Voorhis. He is very efficient and thorough. He's worked with everyone in my family. He makes you feel like you're not just another number. He's also gentle and nice. It's been a long time since I've run into a dentist like that."

FROM A SPRINGFIELD PATIENT
SPRINGFIELD, OR

A NOTE TO ALLISON PADMORE, FEDERAL WAY MANAGER
FEDERAL WAY, WA

A LETTER TO FRAN BERRYHILL, LEAD HYGIENIST
TUALATIN, OR

"This is an overdue (BUT HUGE!) thank you for your empathy, professionalism, and expertise for treatment of a subsequent infection at a root canal site ... your analysis of the problem was so astute, your treatment so effective, that all is well. Walking into your office unannounced was unprecedented, but you and your staff were so gracious ... you are appreciated beyond words."

A LETTER TO JONI PORTMAN, LEAD HYGIENIST AT STARK, FROM A STUDENT THAT SHADOWED HER AT WORK
PORTLAND, OR

"I would like to thank you for allowing me to observe and shadow you ... I understand your responsibilities so much clearer now.

Seeing what you do behind the scenes at my own clinic taught me a lot! One of the millions of things I learned was about xylitol. I never knew that there was such a thing as a natural sweetener that helps fight dental decay. Now, that is all I look for when I buy gum!

You took time from your busy schedule to spend with me, and I am very grateful. I enjoyed my experience at Willamette Dental."

REGARDING DR. MARY YOO, ALBANY OFFICE
ALBANY, OR

"I appreciate your gentleness in the dentist's chair ... you have helped me through a number of shots for dental work, and I'm getting over my paranoia. You have been so great, I had to send a thank you."

"I deeply did appreciate your concern for me being in pain - you (and your assistant) were great, and I would like very much to have you ... in the future if I need more care."

TO DR. REDDICKS AND TAMMY, TIGARD-SCHOLLS OFFICE
TIGARD, OR

From a patient with severe dental phobia:

TO DR. GUERIN, DR. RANDOL, JEFF, JACKY AND THE STAFF
ROSEBURG, OR

"Your thoughtfulness has a way of touching lives . . . of making days a little brighter, hearts a little happier, and problems seem a whole lot smaller. It's people like you who make the difference in this world. And though you may not hear it often, you are appreciated very much. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

Our warmest thanks for making this process a lot easier."

TO REBECCA RUSSELL, DENTAL ASSISTANT
TUALATIN, OR

I would like to say thank you for doing a fine job replacing my loose cap. Yeah! I feel much better.

TO THE ORTHODONTIA TEAM
DR. REDDY, STACY WONDERS, HOPE GALANTE, MARCI ROCHA

MEDFORD, OR

A neighbor of a new Willamette Dental orthodontia patient wrote to explain that the girl had had difficult early life experiences. She sent a check to help pay for the teen's braces, because someone had helped pay for her in her youth, and she wanted to pass on the good deed. She sent $20 for the staff at Medford to buy donuts and coffee. She also wrote: "I know as a dental staff you treat everyone with care and respect. I think (girl's name) falls into the category of needing just a little extra." I will be grateful for your attention to her.

TO WILLAMETTE DENTAL, REGARDING DR. JAMES GARBARINO
PORTLAND, OR

"Recently, Dr. Garbarino replaced my dentures. Another denturist ... had made them several years ago. I continually had problems with them. Dr. Garbarino examined them and told me he would have to replace them with a set that better addressed the problems I was having with them. Your company decided that you would replace them at no cost.

Dr. Garbarino began the work about six weeks ago. Each step of the process was very carefully done. He demonstrated a skill level that was light years ahead of the man who did the work before. I received them about ten days ago. I am having only minor problems with them that I am sure he can skillfully correct.

I believe that a man at his skill level should be supervising the work of other denturist and technicians. I highly recommend him. And I believed he should be more adequately paid for his work.

These comments I have written to you are not comments elicited from me; I am doing this out of gratitude for being so well treated."

Robert S. Hutchinson

TO ALLISON, OFFICE MANAGER
FEDERAL WAY, WA

"I'm so glad I got to meet and talk with you yesterday. Thank you for taking the time! I so much appreciate your help in getting me an earlier appointment to get my tooth crowned. You are an absolute angel ... Thanks again so much!"

TO DR. STALEY (PEDIATRIC DENTIST), AND THE STAFF AT TIGARD-SCHOLLS OFFICE
BEAVERTON, OR

"One caretaker brought in a small Christmas tree and a basket of goodies with this note on the care package: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving (name of patient) a pain free life. She cannot bounce high enough or often enough now. That is truly a gift."

A mother brought in a cookie bouquet and card which said, "Thank you for giving (patient's name) his "two front teeth for Christmas. I can't begin to tell you how much we appreciate your help!"

TO DR. VAN BUREN AND HIS ASSISTANT, DEE
EUGENE, OR

"You made me a Happy Camper. I want to thank you and your sweet assistant, Dee, for helping me through a painful procedure/ordeal. I particularly appreciated your verbal assistance through each step . . . Thanks, too, for your follow-up call the day after. I know you do this for all your patients, and that is so much appreciated."
